Come on in, the water is warm. The DraftKings Sportsbook may only currently be available in certain states, but the new sportsbook is looking to quickly innovate sports betting by creating ways that are more palatable to casual bettors.
The online sportsbook has introduced DraftKings Sportbook Pools, a new concept promising to be more for the casual sports bettor. For those that have played DraftKings DFS, you may have seen something similar with DraftKings Team Pick’em.
What are DraftKings Pools?
The DK Sportsbook describes the new games as “like an office pool, but with the entire state.” The new games are available on the DraftKings Sportsbook app via iOS and Android.
DraftKings Pools throw out the concept of more complicated aspects of sports betting such as points spreads and odds and simplify things — yes, sports betting can be very complicated to a layman. DraftKings makes the games more accessible to casual bettors by making the selection process more similar to daily fantasy sports rather than sports betting. Instead of betting a side with odds, bettors will choose outcomes from a group of sporting events, such as selecting NFL game-winners during a given week.
While the Pools offered originally were extremely straight-forward — selecting winners of NFL games — DraftKings has since expanded Pools in many other ways including across sports or even adding player performance into the mix.
Winners of the Pools are determined on the number of correct picks. Before entering the pool, you will be able to see the buy-in, total prizes awarded for the pool, along with the requirements for winning a prize.
DraftKings Betting Pools now available in Colorado
The DraftKings Online Sportbook is launching in Colorado on May 1st, 2020, but DraftKings CO Betting Pools are available TODAY for Coloradans to take part with friends or family. DraftKings Pools can be accessed from the “Pools” tab at the DraftKings Sportsbook app or website.
To offer online betting in the state, the popular sportsbook has partnered with Twin River Worldwide Holdings, the owner of the Mardis Gras Casino in Black Hawk, CO.
The simple steps of enetering DraftKings Sportsbook Pools
DraftKings attempts to make playing in pools and entering them as easy as possible, which they outline in three steps:
- Select a pool when in the DraftKings Sportsbook app. Bettors will be given a choice to enter a variety of Pools.
- After selecting the Pool you want to play, you will be given a series of choices to make, which will be used to determine your performance in the Pool.
- Once you have submitted all of your picks, you will need to confirm your entries by submitting your selections.
DraftKings Sportsbook Pool prizes
Winners of the pool will be determined by the entries with the most correct selections within a given pool. Fortunately, you wont necessarily have to make the most correct selections to win a prize.
As an example, for a NFL Pick’em Poll, a bettor must enter the contest with $20 for a chance at a share of a prize pool that is guaranteed to be at least $200,000. If you make 13 correct picks you will share 50% of the prize pool with all other players that achieve the feat. Players making 12 correct selections on the week will share 30% of the prize pool while 11 correct selections will share 20% of the prize pool.
As DraftKings pools continue to expand, we would imagine that the prize structures will vary based on the types of pools that the DraftKings sportsbook starts to run.
