West Virginia’s Bet Lucky Without Sports Betting During March Madness

BetLucky sportsbook in WV down

One of the biggest times of the year for sports betting is nearly upon us with the start of March Madness on Thursday. But for bettors at two West Virginia sportsbooks, sports bettors will have to wait until next year to bet on March Madness games.

Delaware North-owned Bet Lucky, the provider of two land-based and mobile sportsbooks in the state of West Virginia, suddenly suspended sportsbook operations in early March, citing a dispute with Minomni and a third-party technology supplier. The news has affected the Wheeling Island Hotel Sportsbook, the Mardi Gras Casino Sportsbook and the Bet Lucky mobile app.

Bet Lucky has revealed that the outage is temporary and that they are working on a solution.

Another update was provided via the Bet Lucky Twitter page on Tuesday.

Still March Madness betting options for West Virginia

Bet Lucky operated sportsbooks have been down since the evening of March 6th. Wheel Island, Mardi Gras and Bet Lucky have said they will honor any bets that were placed prior to the suspending of operations. But while Bet Lucky works to find a solution to their supplier issues, a time frame for the return of the sportsbook has not yet been announced.

The West Virginia Lottery weighed in on the developments in early March saying that they will continue to monitor the situation:

“Sports wagering is currently nonoperational at Mardi Gras Casino & Resort and Wheeling Island, due to negotiations between their management services provider and a third-party vendor. Both casinos are owned by Delaware North, and the management services provider is responsible for services to the casinos including management of trades and risks, providing player- and service-level support, and customizing the functionality and operations of the sports wagering platform.”

Despite Bet Lucky offering the only mobile sportsbook currently in West Virginia, state’s residents do still have an option for March Madness betting in West Virginia. Sports bettors can place wagers via land-based locations at the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Racetrack, The Greebrier and the Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort are all offering land-based sports betting options.
